During the morning of Saturday, April 21st Drupon Thinley Ningpo will teach on the basics of healing through balancing the energies of body and mind. Drupon will also give instructions on Mahamudra meditation, and guide the sangha on how to integrate body-mind through meditation practice.  In the afternoon, Amchi Karma will give introductory teachings on the Gyud-Shi, or the Four Medical Tantras. It is said that the Gyud-Shi was originally transmitted by Buddha Shakyamuni in the form of Medicine Buddha. The Gyud-Shi is revered as one of the most important texts in tradition of Tibetan Medicine, and holds teachings on the basic sciences for healing the body-mind.

Tibetan medicine is the traditional medical system of Tibet. It uses a complex approach to diagnosis, including techniques such as pulse analysis and urinalysis, and the recommendation of behavior and dietary changes, and organic medicines, such as natural herbs and minerals. Tibetan Medicine also recommends the use of physical therapies (acupuncture, body movement) to treat illness.

Tibetan medicine understands the body to be composed of three primary energies, bile, wind, and phlegm. Wind regulates the nervous and sensory system, and also breathing. Whereas bile regulates the heat in the body, and phlegm regulates the cold in the body. When the energies are imbalanced by emotions, distress, or seasonal changes, individuals will experience physical disease.
