Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra was written 1,200 years ago by the Great Bodhisattva Shantideva, a renunciant prince from north India, translated into the English title as: “The Ways of the Bodhisattvas.”and is highly revered as it shows concisely and comprehensively how to generate bodhicitta and how to conduct oneself like a Bodhisattva.
The Way of the Bodhisattva provides a systematic overview of what the Bodhisattvas must study and practice in order to become wise and kind, and attain enlightenment.
The Way of the Bodhisattva is one of the great Mahayana texts and most commonly studied and practiced in India and Tibet. This text has more than one hundred commentaries written in India. Since its introduction in Tibet by the 9th century, more than twenty commentaries were written. When Tibetan Buddhism propagated worldwide, this text became more widely read and practiced by Buddhist practitioners both in the east and west.
The text was written in simple language for easy to understand, yet the contents are profound because they were derived from actual practices.
